Elections Committee
The SCASL Elections committee is seeking nominations for the 2025-26 Slate of Officers consisting of President-Elect, Secretary, and three Election Committee Member-at-Large positions. Elections will be held during the March 2025 SCASL Annual Business Meeting. Nominees must reside and/or work in South Carolina and be members of SCASL. Nominations are due Friday, November 1, 2024.
President-Elect: The President-Elect is a three-year commitment and requires previous Board of Directors service. Personal membership in ALA and AASL for the duration of your service as an officer is also required.
Year One Duties - President-Elect - 2025-2026:
- Plans the SCASL 2026 Annual Conference and selects the major speakers for the 2027 conference.
- Attends ALA Annual Conference to observe the AASL Chapter Assembly and scout for conference speakers, authors, and vendors
- Attends the AASL Annual Conference to represent SCASL.
Year Two Duties - President - 2026-2027:
- Presides over Executive Committee and Board of Directors Meetings.
- Attends ALA Annual Annual Conference to represent SCASL at the AASL Chapter Assembly.
- Serves as SCASL spokesperson when needed.
- Helps organize Fall Workshops.
Year Three Duties - Past President - 2027-2028:
- Attends ALA Annual Annual Conference to represent SCASL at the AASL Chapter Assembly.
- Chairs the Elections Committee.
- Chairs the SCASL 2029 annual conference site selection task force.
- Leads the Emerging Leaders program.
SCASL Secretary - serves for two years This is an Executive Board of Directors position. The Secretary records and drafts minutes of all official business meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and membership. This position requires previous Board of Directors service.
SCASL Treasurer - serves for two years This is an Executive Board of Directors position. The Treasurer maintains the association's budget and financial accounts. This position requires previous Board of Directors service.
SCASL Election Committee Member-at-Large: The SCASL Election Committee is responsible for vetting candidates for offices available and the members-at-large for the Election Committee; seeking approval of election slates from the SCASL Board of Directors; and ensuring that the membership is notified of the slates prior to the election.

Function: The Elections Committee makes recommendations for nominees to serve as officers of the Association and to identify future leaders of the Association.
Composition: The Immediate Past President, the Regional Network Director and three elected Member-at-Large positions. The Bylaws were revised and approved at the 2022 SCASL Conference and the first three Member-at-Large positions were elected at the 2013 conference. Members of the Elections Committee will serve a one-year term.
Chairperson: The Immediate Past President will serve as chair of the Elections Committee.
Duties:
- Prepares a slate of the following officers for nomination at the annual business meeting: President-Elect, Secretary (every two years), Treasurer (every two years) and three Member-at-Large positions for the Elections Committee.
- Checks with the Executive Secretary to determine the eligibility of all candidates under consideration.
- Secures written permission from the nominees to place their names on the slate. The nominees should have read the duties and responsibilities of their offices. Advises candidates for President and President-Elect that they must be members of ALA and AASL.
- Sends uniform biographical sheets to all prospective candidates. These should be returned to the chairman (with photograph) so that the information can be published in the issue of the SCASL Messenger before the conference.
