Pre-Service Committee

Function: The Pre-Service Committee is to act as a bridge between the School Library Media profession and pre-service teachers and organizations.

Composition: The Pre-Service Committee is comprised of a Committee Chairperson and members chosen by the chair.

Chairperson: The Pre-Service Committee Chairperson is selected by the SCASL President.

Duties:

(1) Provide members of the teacher education community up-to-date information about school library media services.
(2) Encourages local teacher education colleges to include this information in their curriculum.
(3) Makes school administrators aware of the potential of school library media services.

Past Pre-Service Activities:

  •  A Prezi presentation and an video commercial on school library media centers was created in 2011-2012.
  •  A poster session was conducted at the 2012 SCASL Convention about Pre-service Education
  • Secured a list of teacher education contacts and student teacher supervisor contacts.
  • Posted an article in the Messenger about the Pre-Service committee
  • Mailed out the information about the Pre-service committee and SCASL to teacher education institutions

Plans for the future:

In the future, the pre-service committee intends to continue with going out to different college campuses across the state to discuss what media specialists do and what a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science can do for them.
